For the years 2013-2020 Polish power plants were granted 404 million free CO2 allowances, and in 2014 were issued them approx. 66 million free allowances - informed the Ministry of Economy. Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz at the EU summit seeks to maintain free permits for power plants. These permits however, do not cover the total needs of the energy sector - indicated the Ministry of Economy. Missing allowances plants must buy at auction. The need of buying allowances aims encourage investments in renewable sources.
