Energy from waste in the Swedish way!

Wlodzimierz winklervattenfallDuring the second edition of the international seminar "Energy from waste. Investments, fuels, technologies", which will be held on 25th March, Włodzimierz Winkler, Manager Electrical Plants, Vattenfall AB, will share his experience about the production of energy from waste by the WTE plant in Uppsala (Sweden).

A waste combustion unit (Unit 5) was commissioned at the facility in Uppsala in 2005. It was designed to blend in with the local environment. To make sure that this criterion would be fulfilled, an architectural competition was initiated. The winning bidder utilised the slope of the ground, thus limiting the height of the building. It is capable of burning sorted household waste as well as industrial waste. Together with the older boilers, the new unit is able to burn 52 tonnes of waste per hour, equal to 5 freight containers every hour. The installed capacity has been raised from 100 MW to 175 MW. The energy in the waste is used to produce district heating and electricity as well as district heating and process steam. More...
